A paten is a plate that holds sacraments in religious ceremonies. In the tradition of Wicca and Witchcraft, the pentacle disk is an essential ritual tool which evokes the Earth element. It can be used to consecrate other objects, stones, and jewelry, and display sacramental food items during ritual. The pentagram in upright fashion represents the four elements balanced by Spirit.
Ash corresponds to wisdom, self-knowledge, and illumination. It lends its influence to astral work, divination, and dream work. In Norse mythology the Yggdrasil was a large ash tree from which Odin hung himself upside down. This act of self-sacrifice granted Odin knowledge of the runes.
Our natural wood patens are finished in a non-toxic blend of polymerized linseed oils and beeswax. It is environmentally friendly, food-contact safe and free of volatile organic compounds. They're made in America by our in-house artist using wood sourced from Michigan!
